State of the Lady Cougar Basketball Program

Every year the President gives their State of the Union address.
Here is my version of this as it applies to the Lady Cougar basketball program.

State of the Lady Cougar Program
Looking at the overall picture of the Lady Cougar basketball program we are better off than we were 5 years ago. The win/loss record and the number of players may not reflect this BUT the program is in better shape than it was 5 years ago.
Lets look at some facts. There are 14 players on the LCHS varsity roster. The roster make up is 2 Seniors, 3 Juniors, (5 Upper classman), 5 sophomores and 4 Freshman. If you look at the numbers this means that were are basically at a 10.21 level ( Sophomore +)which means we are basically a Freshman and Sophomore squad facing teams consisting of mainly Juniors and Seniors. So as you can see we are a very young team.
Coach Mac now has 3 assistant coaches and they work very well together. They are young, energetic and willing to put in the time necessary to make the program better. They are not only working to make the girls better players but improve as a person. The coaching staff as a group has attended numerous Middle School games when their schedue permits.
Over the past few summers the teams have gone to summer camps at various site and made a very good and respectable showing at these. Among the camps they have attended have been at Georgetown and Murfreesboro, Tn. All players were given chance to attend these camps and improve their skill level.
The skill level of the players is GREATLY improved than they were 5 years ago. Everyone now has the green light to “attack the rack” and most are taking advantage of this.
The 5 middles schools are now working together to make Logan County more competitive in the region. They are now running the same plays, offense, drills, etc. ALL OF THE SCHOOLS ARE NOW PLAYING MAN TO MAN DEFENSE. Trying to improve their schedule, etc. They will have the chance to attend a skills camp at Georgetown this summer.
Logan County Junior Pro is now in its second year with around 275 students from grades 4-8 taking part.
There are now at least 4 JV Games played on various Saturdays to give ones who don’t get as much playing time more time on the court.
This is another step in the right direction to make Logan County basketball better. They are currently trying to get a 4th & 5th grade girls team to take to a one day tourney the later part of Feb.
Coaches attended a meeting of coaches only this Friday and will now be meeting monthly to discuss issues, concerns, etc facing the program.
All coaches have been given the chance to attend numerous coaching clinics, Tunica, Ms. For example. They have also received numerous coaching aids, cd’s, dvd’s at no cost to them.
The last 3 years they have ran a summer AAU program, Logan County Ice. They have had 2 or 3 teams each year competing in 4 AAU tourneys against top level competition.
Talk to some of the former players and get their input on how the program is now compared to 5 years ago.

There is now a pride in wearing the Lady Cougar uniform.

As I said in the opening paragraph the program is IN BETTER SHAPE THEN IT WAS 5 YEARS AGO.
We all need to take a deep breath and look at the overall picture and be thankful for what Coach Mac and his staff is working to develop. What is the old saying “Be careful what you wish for – you may get it.
Let me throw this out as a final statement. Would you feel comfortable letting your teenage daughter be part of the Lday Cougar Program? As a parent of a Freshman at Logan County High School I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM IF MY DAUGHTER WAS A MEMBER OF THE TEAM.

Would like to hear your comments on the state of the program.
